Jennika
Bulmer, born 26th December 2001 weighed in at only 2lb at birth. Over ten
weeks early, the first few days were a bit of a worry. Jenni sunbathed under
the ultraviolet light, sunglasses on, oblivious to what was going on around
(obviously her mother's daughter). However several blood transfusions later,
a bit of caffeine and some growth hormone and she was swelling like a balloon.
Whatmade life even easier for the little one was not having to worry about food - it being delivered directly into her stomach through a tube, which did away with all that mess around the mouth and spillages down the bib. In fact, the only hardship was having to be turned occasionally to develop that all over tan, and the breathing apparatus stuffed up the nostrils.
If
she ever snores in a later life she has agood
excuse, as the tubes distort the pallette in
babies that young. Apparently all the distortions sort themselves out later,
but looking at the parents you might want to be careful what you say.
Anyway, she's now at home, on time and without oxygen. (Apparently when premature babies come home on oxygen the whole house is "wired" to allow the baby to be plugged in. I have some friends who would fancy that, replacing the oxygen with something slightly stronger). The only traumas she's now likely to face are the grandparents, the pets and the occasional visit from an out of work uncle looking for something to do. Poor kid.
